Users of Macs will soon be able to use WhatsApp’s new feature

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has launched a new feature that allows users to access and follow the channels they are following on their Macs, as part of the WhatsApp beta for Mac 24.19.71 update.

Using the new version of Mac Catalyst – also available within the TestFlight app – users will now be able to view channels directly from the Status tab. The Status tab has been renamed to Updates which will allow users to access both status updates and channels.

The WABetaInfo reports that users earlier had to view certain channel updates only via notification due to the lack of full support for viewing them due to a lack of full support for viewing them.

As part of the transition, WhatsApp is also migrating users’ ability to access channels from the Mac Electron app to the new Mac Catalyst app, as the former is scheduled for deprecation at the end of June.

The Mac app now comes with a number of new features, including the ability to follow favorite channels directly from the application, as well as the ability to filter channels based on country or category directly from the app.

There is also the possibility that users will be able to discover new content that is aligned with their interests without having to switch from the web app to the mobile app.

While this feature can be found in the latest version of Mac Catalyst, please keep in mind that the channels may not yet fully sync with the mobile app, although this is expected to be the case in the near future.

There is a possibility that channels followed on the mobile app may not immediately appear on the desktop application, so users may need to follow them again on the desktop application after following them on the mobile application.

Also, channel owners may experience temporary difficulties sharing updates within their channels from mobile devices if they follow the channels they manage from the Catalyst app if they are following them.

Having such issues is to be expected, since this is a beta version and it is still in the process of being refined, so there may be some bugs. In a future update, these bugs will be addressed as well, but they will have to wait for the time being.

Currently, some beta testers are taking advantage of the new feature, and it will soon be rolled out to more people over the course of the coming days as well.
