Unicef’s Executive Board elects Pakistan as vice-chair. On Friday, Pakistan was elected from the Asia Pacific Group as the Vice President of the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the term 2023-2025, with overwhelming support.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, it was confirmed that the elections took place at the 218th Unesco Executive Board Session that was held recently in Paris.
In the statement, FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in a statement, “Pakistan is grateful for the overwhelming support and trust reposed in its candidature by members of the Executive Board of Unesco and all member states of Unesco.
It is Pakistan’s commitment, credibility, honesty, and mutual respect which will guide the country in the fulfillment of its responsibilities, she added.
As an ardent supporter of cooperative multilateralism, she said that Pakistan would support the purpose and principles of the UN Charter and took part in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, but would also mobilize collective efforts to promote our common goals at Unesco as an ardent advocate of cooperative multilateralism.
A spokesperson for the organization explained that this would include addressing Africa and Gender Equality as well as developing a Small Island Developing States Operational Strategy.
Pakistan was re-elected Wednesday to the Executive Board of the Unesco for a four-year term – from 2023 to 2027 – in recognition of its longstanding support of and contributions to the United Nations over a period of decades.
Pakistan’s Permanent Delegation to Unesco, based in Paris, said in a statement that Pakistan had received the greatest number of votes out of the 12 countries participating in the contest.
“We are grateful for the trust and support we have received from the member states. In a statement issued from Paris, Pakistan expressed its commitment to continue working cooperatively with all member states toward advancing our shared objectives
