U.S. citizens should not travel to Pakistan during Elections 2024. Earlier this month, the United States (US) Embassy in Pakistan issued a travel advisory for its citizens in Pakistan as the nation is heading for its general election on February 8th.
Apparently, the US embassy in its advisory is advising Americans to remain vigilant and keep an eye out for any political rallies that might happen in their intended travel areas.
During the election day, on February 8, there may be heavy crowding in the areas around polling stations, giving US citizens not eligible to vote in Pakistan’s elections the advice to stay away from them.
In preparation for and during the election day and the immediate aftermath, the embassy warned of the possibility of disruptions to internet and cellular service.
Furthermore, it was stated that on election day and in advance of it, political parties will be actively campaigning – and marching, holding rallies, and making speeches – all of which are normal activities in a democratic environment.
In addition, the embassy of the Republic of Korea said that public gatherings may lead to traffic slowdowns, disruptions of transportation, and other obstructions to free movement and safety on the streets.
It has been reported that politically motivated violence has sometimes been targeted at political activities in Pakistan.”
If you are unexpectedly in the vicinity of a large gathering or demonstration, we cautioned US citizens to exercise caution and avoid areas with large public gatherings.
Citizens of the US embassy were encouraged to review their personal security plans and monitor local media for any latest developments regarding the situation.
A low profile was also advised to Americans in Pakistan as well as carrying identification at all times. Furthermore, the police asked them to cooperate with them as much as possible.
