There has been a major move by the Sindh government in the last few days, with sacking of three heads of education boards, as well as the removal of several top officials from their posts, Geo News reported on Thursday.

A notification published by Geo News indicates that Sindh caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqir has appointed a new chairman for the boards of intermediate Karachi, Sindh Technical Board, and Larkana board, following the removal of the current chairman.

A similar decision was made to sack the secretaries and controllers of the examinations of BIEK, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, and Larkana boards.

A number of other audit officers have been removed from their jobs, including those in Larkana, Sukkur, Nawabshah, as well as the auditors for the Board of Secondary Education Karachi.

Furthermore, the Sindh government has applied to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for permission to appoint new personnel to the now-vacant positions in the state, as interim rulers need the body’s approval to hire new employees in their positions.

A letter sent to the commission by the government also stated that in a number of education boards across the province, top posts are currently being operated through “stop-gap” arrangements, and that permanent appointments are necessary to allow these departments to function more efficiently.

The notifications available with Geo News indicate that Justice (Retd) Baqir has removed Dr Prof Naseem Memon from his position as Chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Larkana (BISEL) and appointed him as its chairman for the term ending June 30, 2024.

In addition to Zaheeruddin Bhutto being removed from his position as interim controller of examinations for BIEK, BIEK Secretary Kashif Siddiqui has also been dismissed – and he will return to his previous position immediately.

BIEK’s auditor, Zahid Lakho, was also stripped of his additional responsibilities of being the board’s secretary, as he was stripped of these additional duties.

The Chairman of BISEL, Sikandar Ali Miraj, has also been removed with immediate effect from the post of Inspector of Instruction with immediate effect, and he will return to his original position as BISEL Chairman.

There has been a transfer of Nadeem Soomro, BISEL Controller Examination, to the Human Settlement and Social Housing Department of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

The caretaker chief minister has instructed Syed Aqash Shah to relinquish his position as BISEL’s acting secretary on the instructions of the caretaker chief minister.

In addition to Shaukat Khanzada being sacked from his post, the Department of College Education also directed him to report to the Hyderabad Board’s secretary. There has been a sacking and remand to the Hyderabad Board’s head office of Zahiruddin Sheikh, the audit officer of the Hyderabad board.

There was a transfer of the audit officer position at BISEL to Ghulam Mustafa, who is now reported to the position of deputy controller at BISEL.

There has been a removal of the Secretary of the BISES (Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Sukkur) and he has been asked to report to the office of the deputy secretary. It has been decided to remove BISES Controller Examination Dr Abdul Fateh Mehr from his position and ask him to report to the secretary’s office.

As part of the caretaker chief minister’s decision, Ghulam Qadir Dharijo, the BISES audit officer, has also been removed from his position and has been directed to report to his office, which is that of the chairman.
