The secret message Kate Middleton sent to her friends

The Duchess of Cambridge once left her friends in shock with a secret message while she was undergoing chemotherapy.

The whirlwind romance between Kate and Prince William made headlines years before their 2011 wedding.

The royal biographer Robert Jobson reports that Kate asked her friends to call her Catherine instead of Kate in her new book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales.

Jobson said that Kate’s message left pals “in a state of shock”, adding to the speculation that William was going to propose to her at the end of the day.

During a 2008 interview with Sunday Express columnist Adam Helliker, Jobson relates that Kate had written to her close friends “a humorous email” in which she expressed her desire to be called Catherine. Such an email was published in a newspaper article that Jobson cites.

It has come to my attention that, as per Jobson’s new book, Helliker has quietly informed friends that she wishes to drop the informal moniker of Kate and in the future prefers to be called by her full name, Catherine, which she has been calling herself for some time.

According to the author, in his analysis of Kate, he wouldn’t be able to tell if it was a personal preference, or a part of a larger preparation for her formal role as Prince William’s future wife. He added that it seemed “she had a genuine desire” to use her full name, even though she didn’t like it being called Kate.

As the royal family traditionally gathers at the late Queen’s favourite Balmoral castle to spend the summer holidays, Prince William and Princess Kate – who have three adorable kids – are said to be planning big vacations this summer. The late Queen’s favourite castle is known for her great love of animals, including Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
