The Pakistan women’s cricket team scored 168/4 off its 20 overs in Wednesday’s second T20I game against South Africa women, which they won by 13 runs at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
A total of 182 runs was set by the Green Shirts for the Proteas to chase, but they were unable to achieve the target and fell 13 runs short.
The Pakistani team, after winning the toss and deciding to bowl the first ball, had posted a total of 181/4 in their first innings after batting first.
Laura Wolvaardt and her team were unable to contain the fiery attack of Muneeba Ali and Fatima Sana who both scored 45 (34), and 37 (23) respectively, in the match.
During the match, the former captain of the team, Nida Dar, scored a fast 29 off 21 balls for the team, which was a tremendous performance.
As for Dar, she has also achieved the milestone of 2000 runs, making her the third Pakistani women cricketer to reach that mark.
As the innings was drawing to an end, Aliya Riaz, who was batting with Fatima at the time, smashed two fours and a six, adding 17 runs to the scoreboard off seven deliveries.
There was 11 runs from 11 deliveries by Pakistan’s opener Gul Feroza and 28 runs from 25 deliveries by Pakistan’s Sidra Ameen in his first innings.
There was no doubt that Tumi Sekhukhune shone with the ball as she dismissed Feroza and Dar with ease for the Proteas.
Sune Luus and Annerie Dercksen both took one wicket each, while Annerie Dercksen claimed two wickets.
Earlier in the innings, the Proteas looked good as they began their attempt to chase the target, but in the 2.4 overs, they lost the first batter they faced as opener Tazmin Brits returned to the dugout after scoring just nine runs off 10 balls in the innings.
Sune Luus (53 off 29) and Chloe Tryon (30 off 16) put up last ditch efforts, but they fell 14 runs short of South Africa’s 182-run target despite their last ditch efforts.
As soon as the skipper, Wolvaardt, had scored 36 runs off 25 balls in the 8.5 over, he was followed by the rest of his side.
There were 16 (20) goals scored by Anneke Bosch and 12 (16) goals scored by Nadine de Klerk, respectively, on the board.
Despite being unable to claim a victory in the third T20I match, Pakistan was able to level the series 1-1 with two wickets each from Nashra Sandhu and Sadia.
The series decider will take place at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Friday in the final match of the series.
