It has been reported that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nawaz Sharif returned to the country not only to form a government but to seek accountability for those responsible for the political victimization of his party leaders.
As he addressed the parliamentary board meeting of the party in Lahore on Friday, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, Vice President Maryam Nawaz, and other leaders were present.
According to Nawaz, those who lodged “bogus cases” against him and his family members should be held accountable. In a statement, the PML-N supremo stated, “Our party leaders have been imprisoned in false cases, and I now receive justice after seven years.”
As a result of the infamous Panama Papers disclosures, graft cases have been filed against him and his family. It has taken seven years for me to receive justice after being imprisoned in false cases for the past seven years, the PML-N supremo said.
In response to the Panama Papers revelations, he said that he and his family had been charged with graft. The Supreme Court disqualified him for life for failing to declare a receivable salary while he was prime minister of the country. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was directed to file references against him.
In 2018, the accountability courts sentenced him in the Avenfield and Al-Aziza references. In the Avenfield reference, the IHC overturned his conviction last month, and in the Al-Azizia reference, his appeal is pending. In his address today, Nawaz stated that he intended to serve the nation. At the same time, he demanded that those individuals responsible for the alleged victimization of PML-N leaders be held accountable.
In October this year, Nawaz returned to the country after a four-year exile in London. He said he did not only return to form a government but also to take action against those who had engaged in corruption and political victimization.
According to Nawaz, former chief justice Saqib Nisar is alleged to have said that the PML-N leaders, including him, should remain behind bars in an alleged leaked audio conversation. It was intended to prepare Imran Khan for the 2018 general elections as chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Without naming anyone, Nawaz also criticized former PTI chief Imran Khan. The NAB reference against the PTI leaders involving 190 million pounds has been termed by him as the “biggest scam” in the history of Pakistan. They do not know anything about the morals and principles of the state of Madinah… He was referring to the PTI supremo’s attempt to make Pakistan a welfare state similar to Madina.
The 190 million pound case is without a doubt the biggest scandal.
