The Hundred 2024 likely will not include Shaheen Afridi, After reports emerged that the World T20 Canada was interested in negotiating with Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, The Telegraph reported an announcement that the fast bowler will withdraw from the upcoming edition of The Hundred. The tournament is set to begin on July 23 in England, and is expected to take place from July 23-30.
Welsh Fire retained Pakistani pacer Shahid Afridi for the current season’s edition of the Premier League. Afridi, who represented Welsh Fire in the 2023 edition, will not be participating in this year’s edition of the tournament.
According to the report, Global T20 Canada is also looking for Shaheen for their next edition, which is expected to take place in 2016. In the event that Global T20 and The Hundred collide, the left-arm pacer will be able to take advantage of a much shorter window in Canada than he would in The Hundred, thus ensuring he can spend more time with his family.
In addition to the fact that Shaheen has decided not to play the league, the decision of the team management has also become cause for concern, as the Pakistani pace bowler is not only one of the best pace bowlers in the world but he is also one of the most recognisable and marketable players in the entire world. His absence will surely be felt both on and off the pitch.
It is almost certain that Shaheen will miss the Hundred as he is almost certain to miss the Indian Premier League, so it is yet to be seen if he will play in Global T20 Canada.
