The first torchbearer for the 2024 Paris Olympics is BTS’ Jin, ‘Jin’ from Boyz II Men added another feather to his cap by becoming the first torchbearer of the 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris.

A member of a widely acclaimed South Korean boy band, The Korea Times, carried the flame on Sunday, July 14, at the Seoul National Convention Center.

The BTS ARMY, a group of fans who were in Paris to see the K-pop icon, were welcomed with laudatory applause at the Louvre museum site where he led the relay’s Louvre Museum section.

There was a roar of cheers as Jin, born Kim Seok-jin, arrived at the torch relay center, as the crowd chanted and waved the handwritten posters they had created in support of him.

There was one sign which read, “Welcome, Seok-jin, I Love You”, while one other sign said, “Run, Seok-jin” and “Good luck, Seok-jin” in the Korean language in addition to South Korea’s national flag on top.

In response to their gesture, Jin coyly waved back at them with a smile, acknowledging their support in a small way.

According to Hybe, the parent company of BigHit Music, the 31-year-old singer and rapper said in a statement that he was extremely honoured to be given the opportunity to participate in today’s relay, which took place in New York City.

BTS member, Jimin, said, “I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Army and all the fans that made it possible for me to carry the torch,” he added as the first member of BTS to be discharged after 18 months of military service.

Aside from that, Jin also ran for about 200 meters before returning the torch to the torch relay centre at the museum after returning the flame.
