Six Daanish schools’ designs have been approved, It has been decided that the Planning Commission, at the meeting of the Central Development Working Party (CDWP), will immediately plan, prepare and design six Daanish Schools, of which three schools will be allocated to each of Gilgit and Baltistan (G-B) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the Planning Commission, the proposal submitted by the Ministry of Federal Education was approved, acknowledging that the government is responsible for supporting the unique educational initiatives in GB and AJK. Additionally, the commission wished to express its appreciation for the ministry’s viewpoint that the existing development framework must address the key issue of national educational emergency in G-B, AJK, as well as the newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

Government of the G-B and the Government of the AJK will co-own the project with the Ministry of Federal Education acting as the sponsoring agency. During the process of selecting the site, regional authorities will be consulted as part of the selection process.

In order to ensure effective oversight of its project monitoring unit, the Ministry of Education will ensure that representatives of regional governments are included in the monitoring unit. It is intended that, once the projects have been completed, the respective area governments will assume the administration of the projects in a similar manner to existing cadet colleges.

It is the intention of these schools to establish themselves as centres of excellence in their respective regions by extending admissions to poor and bright students. In the months to come, the Planning Commission will be presented with a detailed design of the proposed development.
