Russian bakery attacked by Ukrainians kills 28 including a child, A Ukrainian air attack on a bakery in Lysychansk in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) on Saturday resulted in the deaths of at least 28 people, according to the Russian media, with the building being partially damaged, and authorities earlier noting that dozens were trapped underneath the rubble of the building.
According to TASS, quoting the statement of the Russian Emergency Ministries, “Operations from the Russian Emergency Ministries have managed to save 10 people. Unfortunately, 28 people, including one child, have died in the rescue operation.”
Search and rescue operations have been launched at the scene of the incident, and authorities have stated that “approximately 65% of the construction materials that have been destroyed have been removed.”.
TASS, a Russian news agency, reported the attack took place on Saturday afternoon when there was a considerable amount of activity in the area. Russian officials claimed that the attack originated from the US-built missile system HIMARS, which can launch multiple rockets simultaneously.
In a message on Telegram, an official from the LPR wrote that the rescued workers were being treated, adding that Sunday had been designated as a day of mourning in the LPR in recognition of the victims of the barbaric attack against Lysychansk carried out by the Ukrainian Army.
There has been some speculation about whether the Ukrainian forces intentionally targeted the bakery after the Ukrainian bombing, which has been confirmed by Kremlin’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. According to her, Ukrainian forces were aware that local residents traditionally buy cakes and groceries there on Saturdays, including the elderly and families with children.
According to her post on Telegram, on the night of the bombardment, Ukraine has committed another act of terrorism and once again demonstrated the criminal nature of the Ukrainian government.
The Russians took control of Lysychansk for the first time in July 2022. As it is located near the front lines of the battle, it continues to be attacked by Ukraine on a regular basis. Despite this, it has been said that the recent attack is the deadliest in the area that has ever taken place.
According to regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, 21 people, including children, were killed and 110 people were injured in the shelling by Ukrainian forces in the Russian city of Belgorod in December last year.
A missile attack by Russia launched in the same month has resulted in the death of at least 30 people and the injury of more than 160 others in several Ukrainian cities.
