Robotics team of Hong Kong school beats Pakistan’s Zain Ahmad

In 2022, Pakistani scientist Zain Ahmad Qureshi established the record for the smallest humanoid robot in history for his robotics team at the Diocesan Boys’ School in Hong Kong.

This robot is 11.3 mm (0.44 in) shorter than a typical ballpoint pen, measuring only 141 mm (5.55 in). According to Interesting Engineering, Aaron Ho Yat Fung, Isaac Zachary To, Justin Wang Tou Duong, and Ngo Hei Leung are the members of the creative team behind this creation.

Guinness World Records recognized the team’s humanoid robot in an episode of their YouTube series Records Weekly.

The pupils at Diocesan Boys’ School had to ensure their record-breaking humanoid robot had a wide range of articulation in order for it to be as small as possible. There was a lot of work involved in teaching the robot to walk on two feet and to articulate its elbows, knees, hips, and shoulders as well.

It was the kids’ first step to use computer-aided design (CAD) to carefully draft a blueprint for their small miracle, beginning with a computer-aided design (CAD) program. Once they had determined the technical specifications and the required parts, they hired a factory to work with them to produce servo motors that met their needs based on their experience and expertise.

In order for the robot to work, the ‘servos,’ or servo motors, are essential to the operation of the robot. With the help of these sensors, the robot can rotate accurately and move deftly, allowing it to move deftly as needed.

The group decided to get a 16-channel servo control board to aid them in coordinating each of these intricate components. According to Guinness, in addition to the screws, they also acquired a variety of hardware necessities, such as wiring, batteries, nuts, and nuts in addition to screws.

Students at the school assembled the acrylic panels and 3D-printed parts of the robot painstakingly in the robotics lab within their school. As the team claims, their marriage of cutting-edge technology and creative design produced an incredibly amazing robotic marvel as a result of the combination of both technologies
