According to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), forming a government in the Centre and Punjab is not an option with the People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), as rival parties are batting for independent candidates.
The Punjab and Centre governments could be formed by the PTI party, according to the party’s senior leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
Barrister Gohar that he was not in contact with the PPP or PML-N.
Having won 150 National Assembly seats, he said, PTI can form government at the Centre with the required number of seats.
The PTI has vowed not to form a coalition government with the PPP and PML-N, according to him, adding that as far as the Punjab and the Centre are concerned, PTI will form the government under its leadership.
A senior PTI official said that the PTI leads in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with a clear majority and that it will form a government there as well.
In parliament, PTI will continue to play its role and will remain in Parliament.”
Based on fears of horse trading among independent candidates, he said they belong to the PTI and won’t join any party against party directives.
Following his statement, PML-N senior leader Ishaq Dar claimed independent candidates who won the general elections in 2024 were in touch with the party.
As the election results continue to flow in, the former finance minister told Geo News that independents have contacted him and will join any party within 72 hours per the Constitution.
Dar stated that the PML-N can’t force someone into joining the party, adding that this has been happening with candidates who have expressed their willingness to join their party, but haven’t been contacted as yet.
