The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is in a strong position to form the provincial government for the first time in the country’s history of general elections after securing more than 100 seats from across Sindh province, which would mean that it will form the provincial government for the very first time.
In Sindh, there are 130 constituencies, out of which at least 84 seats are won by the Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari-led party. A total of 20 reserved seats will also be offered to the PPP, while six seats will be made available to people belonging to religious minorities.
According to the estimates, the PPP’s total membership in the province’s 168th House of Sindh Assembly is expected to increase to 110 members with 110 seats. There were, however, just 10 seats won by the party from Karachi, the largest city in the country.
A strong position has been secured by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on the National Assembly front, with 17 of the 22 seats in the House – 15 in Karachi and two in Hyderabad – garnered by the franchise party.
Although the PPP did not secure 44 seats in the lower house of the Parliament from Sindh, of which seven are from Karachi, according to sources within the party, it achieved success in gaining 44 seats from Sindh. As per the results of the provincial assembly elections conducted in Sindh, the MQM-P gained 28 out of the 47 seats.
In the aftermath of the announcement of the “complete results” by the Election Commission of Pakistan in regard to provincial and national assembly constituencies, the MQM-P has been able to determine its overall position.
It has been announced that independent candidates have won 14 seats in the Sindh Assembly, while Jamaat-e-Islami and the Grand Democratic Alliance have each won two seats.
A 10th general election was held on February 8 in which 60 million Pakistanis exercised their right to vote, marking a historic moment in the history of Pakistan. After the results of the 2024 elections have been announced in a gradual fashion across the entire country, the nation awaits the complete outcome of the polls.
As part of the national and provincial assemblies, the country’s population was able to select their choice of representatives from among 855 constituencies on February 8, 2007.
There can be no doubt that independent candidates are dominating the polls, with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) both proclaiming that they have the majority needed to form a government at the centre, after the results of the elections have trickled in.
There are currently about 100 seats in the race won by PTI-backed candidates, followed by PML-N (71), PPP (53), and MQM-P (17) seats in second and third place, respectively.
