Patrick Dempsey says life goes hand-in-hand with awkwardness

Towards the end of the 1980s, Patrick Dempsey became an international sensation. The handsome actor was cast in Can’t Buy Me Love in 1987 as well as Sweet Home Alabama in 2002, in which he played a JFK-like fiancé named Andrew Hennings, in which fans instantly fell in love with him.

Aside from being on Grey’s Anatomy, he also appeared on the ABC series as Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd, the neurosurgeon on the show.

He believes that he has spent “pretty much my entire life” living in an awkward period in his life, as he was recently named People magazine’s 2023 Sexiest Man Alive.

When he was a child, he spent most of his time moving from one place to another in Maine. In the cover story of this week’s issue of Elle Magazine, the actor admits to playing a lot of sports, like baseball, soccer, skiing, and cycling. “I had dyslexia, which caused the classroom to be always tense, and I was really a late bloomer in school because of it.”

Dempsey, when he was a child, performed in a vaudeville ensemble where he was a unicyclist and juggler.

It’s great to be able to juggle and people are always enthusiastic about it,” he says. It helped me gain a great deal of confidence as a result of that.”

As the actor puts it, maturity and wisdom are the keys to success now. “I think it helps you when you get older,” he says, explaining how it makes him feel more energetic. Throughout your life, you will have highs and lows and you need to understand what the most important things in life are, as you go through cycles of life. As far as I am concerned, everything else is just a gift.”

In spite of his heartthrob status over the years, he describes the new title as a pleasure to receive at this stage of his life, saying that “I am glad it is happening now.”. Despite the fact that it does bump my ego a little bit, he adds that “I am really glad to get the recognition because I can use it for something good.”.
