As stated in one of the joint announcements released by the Office of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) reaffirmed its commitment to accelerate the initial phase of its $5 billion investment in Pakistan.

On Easter Sunday, April 7, Saudi Arabia said in a statement that the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, visited the Al-Safa Palace in Makkah Al-Mukarramah to meet with Sharif.

There was an agreement among the two parties in the handout that they would expedite the first wave of investment packages for $5 billion that had already been discussed previously.

At the meeting, it was highlighted that the Kingdom was supporting the Pakistani economy and there was also a mutual desire to strengthen trade and investment ties between the two countries.

As outlined on the handout, the Saudi crown prince expressed warm wishes for the term of office of PM Shehbaz and congratulated him on his inauguration. It added that the latter expressed gratitude for the kingdom’s steadfast support and hospitality as well as reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and economic cooperation with the country.

In a series of discussions, the two brotherly nations explored ways to strengthen the fraternal relations and find ways to enhance collaboration across a range of sectors in order to strengthen the relations between them.

A major focus of the meeting was Pakistan’s economic development and the kingdom’s support for the Pakistani economy. In addition, both countries expressed a desire to strengthen their trade and investment relations. During their meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to speed up the first wave of investment package of $5 billion, which had previously been discussed between both parties.

Both leaders exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and globally of mutual interest, such as the worrying situation in Gaza, which both leaders expressed concern about. A number of international agencies were urged to work towards halting Israeli military operations in Gaza, mitigating humanitarian impacts, and stressing the importance of the international community pressing Israel to cease hostilities, adhere to international law, and allow unhindered humanitarian aid access to Gaza.

As part of their discussion, they discussed the importance of progressing the peace process in accordance with relevant Security Council and General Assembly resolutions as well as the Arab Peace Initiative aimed at establishing an independent Palestinian state whose capital will be East Jerusalem, in accordance with the resolutions of the Security Council and General Assembly.

According to both sides, dialogue between Pakistan and India is crucial to the resolution of outstanding issues between the two countries, particularly the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. A successful outcome of this dialogue would ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

Earlier this week, Premier Shehbaz invited the Crown Prince to come to Pakistan for an official visit as soon as possible, which was accepted by MBS, as reported by a statement from the official government spokesperson.
