Pakistan calls for an end to Israeli violence in Gaza. According to Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, Pakistan is deeply concerned about the escalating hostility in the Middle East and the loss of innocent lives.

On Sunday, Israel bombarded Gaza after Hamas fighters slaughtered hundreds in Israeli towns, abducting an untold number of people and attacking Israeli towns in its bloodiest attack in decades.

Gaza was hit by Israeli air strikes overnight that killed more than 300 people, including 20 children, in housing blocks, tunnels, a mosque, and the homes of Hamas officials.

It is deeply concerning to Pakistan that the hostility in the Middle East is escalating and innocent lives are being lost. On his X account, Jilani wrote, “We stand in solidarity with Palestinians and call for an end to the violence and oppression by Israeli occupation forces.”.

According to him, Palestine must be established on the basis of its pre-1967 borders and UN resolutions in order to be viable and sovereign.

Meanwhile, Dr Arif Alvi urged the international community to take an active role in resolving the Israel-Palestine dispute peacefully in accordance with UN resolutions.

A post on X by the president said progress towards peace would not be possible without condemning Israel’s usurpation and brutalisation of Palestinians.

The Foreign Office (FO) had earlier called for maximum restraint, urging the international community to come together for the cessation of hostilities, protection of civilians and pursuit of a lasting peace.

In a statement, the FO spokesperson said, “We are closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and the eruption of hostilities between Israel and the Palestinians.”

Pakistan has been advocating for a two-state solution as the key to enduring peace in the region, as Mumtaz Zahra Baloch expressed concern about the “human cost of escalating situations” in the region.
