A new policy on travel for ministers and government officials was released by the federal government on Monday, and as a result, these individuals are not allowed to travel abroad more than thrice a year.
The new foreign travel policy contains various other restrictions, among them a ban on staying at five-star hotels overseas, in addition to the other restrictions.
The federal cabinet had decided, relying on documents from the Cabinet Division, that a permission must be requested from the austerity committee before an individual can travel abroad in normal circumstances, according to the federal cabinet decision.
There will be a maximum of three visits from federal ministers, and a maximum of three visits from ministers of state, advisers, and assistants in a year. The documents stated that these visits may be extended under special circumstances in some cases.
A ban on the sale of products related to this issue has been lifted for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce.
In order to visit any international financial institution, all divisions must obtain a no-objection certificate from the Economic Affairs Division before travelling there.
The policy also prohibits support staff from traveling to other foreign countries, as per the policy. There is a strict rule about the travel abroad of a minister when he is accompanied by his secretary. When a situation arises that makes it necessary for them to travel abroad at the same time, they may be allowed to do so.”
It was stated in the documents that, in all cases, a minister or division concerned would have to contact the prime minister for permission before it could be granted exemption.
Documents promoting the attendance of embassy officers at conferences abroad are encouraged as much as possible as part of the embassy’s efforts.
In addition, the president, chief justice, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff committee, services chiefs, senators, members of the National Assembly, federal secretaries, additional secretaries, and ambassadors are entitled to first class accommodations, whereas the prime minister, the chairman of the Senate, as well as the speaker of the National Assembly, are entitled to business class accommodations.
There are also ministers of foreign affairs, ministers of the federal government, and ministers of state (as stated in the documents) who are also allowed to travel in business class.
Federal government officials, on the other hand, have been allowed to travel abroad in economy class while on official business. For overseas trips, it is expected that the Pakistan International Airline (PIA) will be the first choice for the travel, as it was mentioned in the documents.
When the National Assembly and the Senate are in session during the time when the cabinet members are in session, it has been requested that they refrain from travelling abroad and within the country.
Whenever a person travels abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs needs to be informed of all details of the trip within 15 days of the trip, they stated.
In the wake of the diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the countries with which Pakistan has severed diplomatic relations, officials and ministers have been instructed not to initiate contact with those countries.
The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of External Affairs must be contacted before an individual travelling to India can obtain permission to travel there. There should be a disincentive to host foreign companies at your facility. As stated in the documents, bilateral discussions will be the only occasions for experts and consultants to visit.
