Is Mohamed Salah expected to play in the Riyadh Season Cup?

Although several teams have expressed an interest in Mohamed Salah, he is not expected to play in the Riyadh Season Cup scheduled for January 2024.

Multiple teams in that region were interested in signing the Egyptian icon – who has reached the 200-goal mark at Liverpool – during the summer transfer window of 2023, and bids of approximately £150 million ($192 million) were made.

Salah, however, remains under contract at Anfield through 2025, according to goal.com.

Salah’s former team-mates Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have already joined Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in an ambitious and big-spending division as part of the Saudi Pro League at some point.

Salah is unlikely to tread that path early in 2024, however.

“Mohammad Salah, like [Lionel] Messi, Benzema, Ronaldo, and Kevin De Bruyne, are players to whom we are willing to listen when their availability arises,” Saudi Pro League Director of Football Michael Emenalo said.

In addition, Salah is happy where he is at present, with Liverpool being a historic and wonderful club. We do not intend to come across as being pressured on him in any way. However, if there is any interest in moving forward, Salah is a player you want in your league, in any league,” he explained.

It is our pleasure to respect Liverpool and in this situation, we will not have the initiative to make anything happen on our own. For there to be a successful outcome, all parties involved need to align their interests. It’s a very personal thing for me, as a player who I recruited [for Chelsea] and I like very much.”

In addition, Emenalo explained, “There is nothing new or groundbreaking about what I’m saying – that a player of this level of talent is available and your league wants to gain his services. If Salah is available, he is interested in coming and everything aligns, I would be extremely happy.
