Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem made Pakistan proud on Thursday after he broke the world record with a throw of 92.97 metres in the final of the Paris Olympics.
Pakistan’s Olympic drought of 40 years came to an end with a gold medal from the young athlete.
In 1960, 1968, and 1984, Pakistan’s team won gold in field hockey.
The only Pakistani athletes to win an individual medal before Thursday were in wrestling in 1960 and boxing in 1988.
Since 1992, Pakistan has failed to win a medal at any Olympic Games.
Although the nation is in jubilation, some people claim Nadeem broke a 118-year record on social media. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.
Faizan Lakhani wrote on X that he was curious how the javelin thrower did it.
“Andreas Thorkildsen held the previous record for the best throw ever at the Olympics. During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he set that record. Adding 16 years to that, he said.
118 years ago, javelin throwing wasn’t even in the Olympics, according to Lakhani. In 1908, it became a part of the system.
In addition, the Olympics website mentions: “Since 1908, the javelin throw has been a men’s event in the Olympics.” In 1932, the women’s competition was introduced.”
According to the claimed record, it was set in 1906, before javelin throw was an Olympic event.
According to Lakhani’s post, “Records are broken one after another, so duration is calculated from previous records.”
