Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), expressed concern over the recently enacted 26th Constitutional Amendment, which gives parliamentarians the right to pick the Supreme Court’s chief justice.
This is what he said during his meeting with PTI lawyers, which was ordered by the Islamabad High Court.
PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry told journalists after the meeting that the ex-prime minister expressed displeasure over the 26th Amendment.
According to the lawyer, Khan refused to comment on the appointment of Justice Yahya Afridi as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).
According to Faisal, the deposed premier lauded PTI supporters and workers for their sacrifices after he was ousted in 2022. PTI’s founder isn’t scared of adversity.
The PTI founder is being helped to reduce hardships.
PTI founder Chaudhry claims he’s tortured in a six-by-eight cell.
There’ll be a complaint filed in IHC about the former premier’s treatment.
In addition, he said Imran has told the leaders to lead from the front.
Adding that the jailed party founder was unaware of Justice Yahya’s appointment and the passage of the 26th Amendment, PTI leader Shoaib Shaheen said this is unprecedented “state terrorism.”.
“We told him about the developments, including Bushra Bibi’s release,” he said, adding Imran was happy about it.
Adiala Jail authorities were ordered to let the ex-premier’s lawyers meet after the IHC ordered it.
The order came amid PTI’s ongoing efforts to free its founder. In an earlier order, the court ordered the jail administration to bring PTI founder before it today at 3pm. During the hearing of a contempt of court case against the Adiala Jail superintendent, the IHC said, “Bring the PTI founder, he’ll meet with his lawyers.”
Following his ouster from power in April 2022, the jailed politician has been behind bars at the Adiala facility for more than a year. The PTI founder remains incarcerated despite getting relief in many cases. Toshakhana case is related to illegal sale of state gifts.
Soon after they were acquitted in the iddat case, or the un-Islamic nikah case, Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were arrested in the said case.
