IHC found Imran and Qureshi not guilty in the cipher case decision, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders say that the Islamabad High Court’s judgment in favour of the party founder Imran Khan and its vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi today has been considered as a “first drop of rain” and they look forward to the coming days where more relief will be received.

On Monday, the IHC annulled the convictions of Imran and Qureshi in the infamous cipher case containing accusations of misuse and misplacement of classified diplomatic documents, a major relief for the embattled former ruling party.

A comment was made by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan about today’s IHC verdict, and he expressed his disappointment that a case that he described as “baseless and unfounded” has come to its conclusion. In addition, he stated that the founder of PTI spent 10 months in jail because of the cipher case, which erupted on March 27, 2022, when the controversy first came to light.

His claim that the former prime minister would be released very soon came as a shock to those who believed he was the true protagonist. He hoped that justice would be served by the judiciary for the embattled party.

It was the first drop of rain as Gohar described today’s verdict. He said his party had been in a difficult position since its ouster and he hopes that today’s verdict will bring some relief.

As part of a political campaign against the leadership of the PTI, the politician also announced that all “politically motivated cases based on revenge” would also be discarded.

In the Punjab Assembly, PTI-backed legislative members have also chanted slogans in support of the ruling after the appeals court acquitted PTI founder and vice-chairman of the cipher case.

In a vote of support for the former prime minister, the members of the PTI party in the House thumped their desks.

Aamir Farooq, Chief Justice of the IHC, and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, Justice of the IHC, announced today that they have given a short verdict on the appeals against the conviction in the cipher case, which were reserved earlier in the day.

PTI’s founder and party’s vice-chairman were convicted of a cipher case by a Pakistani court in January of this year, resulting in each of them being sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Specifically, the former prime minister is accused of making public the contents of a secret cable that was sent to the government in Islamabad by the country’s ambassador in Washington and made public by the former prime minister.

On May 15, the Court of Appeal ruled in favor of the PTI founder’s bail petition regarding a £190 million NCA settlement reference that he filed, giving him the latest relief he had been seeking.
