A British court heard that Sara Sharif’s father, who took full responsibility for her death, has told a judge he “takes full responsibility” for her death.
Prosecutors say Sara was murdered repeatedly in August 2023 at her home in Woking, southwest of London.
Urfan Sharif, her father, his wife, Sara Sharif’s stepmother, Beinash Batool, 30, and her uncle Faisal Malik, 29, are all on trial at the Old Bailey in London. They all deny murder and an alternative charge of causing her death.
Initially, Sharif took responsibility for saving his family, but later cited his wife as the cause of his daughter’s death in court.
According to him, he admitted to what he said in a 999 call and what he wrote in his confession. It’s all true.”
As Caroline Carberry KC, his wife Batool’s barrister, cross-examined him, she asked: “Did you beat your daughter to death? ” He replied: “Yes, she died because of me.”
Sara had been soiling herself and vomiting for several weeks, so he beat the girl “severely” over a period of time.
Asked Carberry if you had pleaded not guilty to murder, Carberry replied, “No.”. If it were brought up again, would you agree to it? ” He replied yes.
A few minutes later, Sharif’s barrister, Naeem Mian KC, stepped up to ask for a few minutes with his client. During the court hearing, he said, “We would like to request a meeting with Sharif before any charges are brought against him.”
A brief suspension of the trial was ordered when Batool left the dock sobbing.
Upon returning to the witness stand, Sharif admitted to beating Sara to death.
“Why was she beating her so forcefully? ” She replied: “Nothing.” And she asked: “How could you be so brutal?” He replied: “I was wrong.”
She had fractures, burns, and human bite marks upon postmortem examination, along with 71 external injuries.
Near the family’s outhouse, a bloodstained cricket bat, rolling pin, belt, rope. A metal pole were found, according to prosecutor Bill Emlyn Jones KC.
