Eid ul Adha moon sighting in Pakistan eid ul adha on June 17, The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Friday that Pakistani Muslims will celebrate Eid ul Adha on Wednesday, June 17, following the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon on Thursday.
In attendance were members of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, as well as representatives from SUPARCO, the Met Office, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs at the moon sighting event, which was chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
In parallel to this, sub-committees were organized in Lahore, Peshawar, and other cities in order to gather testimony from the local people.
The preparations for the celebration of Eid ul Adha, which falls on the tenth day of Zil Hajj – which coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage – are in full swing across the country as people expect the moon to be sighted today, marking the beginning of the festival. The occassion will therefore be observed on June 17th by Muslims in Pakistan.
The Arabian Peninsula and other Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, celebrated the beginning of the lunar month yesterday (June 6th), which is the last month of the Islamic calendar.
There is “strong likelihood” that the crescent will be sighted tonight evening as the newly born moon of Zil Hajj was born on Thursday evening. According to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz, the crescent is likely to be seen this evening.
The impending Eid ul Adha celebrations have prompted the establishment of cattle markets across the country to allow people to purchase cows, goats, sheep, or camels to sacrifice to Allah during the fasts.
