Earthquake of 4.8 strikes the northeast of the US, jolting New York

A major earthquake hit the heavily populated metropolitan area of New York City on Friday morning, according to the US Geological Survey.

According to The Guardian, residents on the eastern shore of the island reported experiencing tremors as a result of the earthquake.

There has been a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 earthquake recorded by the USGS near Lebanon, New Jersey, with a center that is close to the epicenter.

In Connecticut and Massachusetts, People who felt the earthquake in the nearby states of Connecticut and Massachusetts, as well as Bostians who felt it.

It has been reported that there haven’t been any reports of damage to the building as of Friday by the New York fire department.

A New York police department deputy commissioner of operations, Kaz Daughtry, said in a statement that the department had not yet received any reports of major impacts from the storm, but was still evaluating its effects.

Kathy Hochul, the governor of New York, said that people throughout the state were feeling the effects of the earthquake.

In addition, he added: “My team is currently assessing the impact of the storm as well as potential damage, and we will be updating the public throughout the day.”.

It brought back memories of the trembling that was felt by tens of millions of people from Georgia to Canada as a result of the earthquake that struck on August 23, 2011. An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 struck the East Coast on October 4, 2015, marking the most powerful earthquake to strike the coast since World War II. As the epicentre of the event, Virginia served as the location.

Furthermore, this earthquake took place three weeks before the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It shook the city of New York, fractured the Washington Monument, and prompted the evacuation of the White House, the Capitol, and the Pentagon.
