According to Shahid Rind, the provincial government spokesperson, at least five people were killed on Tuesday when unknown gunmen opened fire at a dam site in Panjgur, a district in Balochistan.

A number of those killed were working on a dam in the Paroom tehsil at the time of the attack.

In addition to two people being wounded, the spokesperson said two more have been taken to the hospital. According to Levies authorities, armed motorcycle riders were responsible for the shooting.

Seven Punjabi labourers, hailing from different parts of the state, were shot and killed by unknown assailants almost a month ago.

With the rise in terror incidents in recent months, both the southwestern and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces have been targeted by terrorist attacks. According to a report released by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the two provinces have been the site of 97% of all fatalities in the first three quarters of the upcoming year.

Over 40,000 labourers returned home earlier this month after 20 coal miners died in a rocket attack on the Duki district of Balochistan.

According to the district administration, the victims’ bodies have been transported to the Panjgur Teaching Hospital while further investigations continue.

In an expression of regret, President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the terrorist attack that claimed many lives.

According to the president, terrorists are the enemies of the province’s prosperity and the country’s progress.

During his prayer for the injured, he noted that the terrorists were not interested in Balochistan’s development.

In addition to condemning the fatal attack, Shehbaz Sharif called the perpetrators enemies of the state.

He demanded that those responsible for the attack be identified and punished for their crimes.

Sarfaraz Bugti, the Balochistan Chief Minister, called the terrorist attack “unforgivable”.

A chief minister vowed to hold accountable those responsible for the cowardly attack, calling them followers of anti-national elements.
