Authorities in Ivory Coast report a death from Mpox, It is reported that 28 cases of mpox were reported in the Ivory Coast on Tuesday, including one death from the virus that has caused hundreds of deaths in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Since August 1, six cases have been declared.
According to Daouda Coulibaly, an INHP doctor, the Institute for National Public Health (INHP) recorded 28 confirmed cases and one death during Tuesday’s surveillance around the country.
There were other fatal cases reported in the country’s economic capital, Abidjan, the INHP said. According to Coulibaly, tests are being conducted to identify the strain responsible for the latest cases of MPox.
Coulibaly said there is no need to be alarmed. There is no upsurge in cases – it’s just the beginning of an epidemic.
Monitoring for MPX had been strengthened, he said.
Identifying the contacts of cases, isolating them, and monitoring them are all necessary to break the chains of transmission.”.
West Africa’s caseload this year was similar to that of a previous epidemic in 2022.
DR Congo, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, and Sweden are experiencing an outbreak of clade 1b, which is a more contagious and deadly variant.
There have been more than 500 deaths from some form of mpox in the Democratic Republic of Congo this year. As of last week, it has been declared a global health emergency by the WHO.
