KARACHI: A Connectivity Disruption of Various Banks with 1LINK Causes Difficulties for Customers on ATM Withdrawals
On Monday, Karachi witnessed a disruption in the connectivity of various banks with 1LINK, the consortium that operates the largest representative of interbank network in Pakistan. This disruption caused immense difficulties for customers when they attempted to withdraw cash from the automated teller machines (ATMs).
The customers encountered a blockade that hindered them from withdrawing cash from the ATMs. As a result, many found themselves unable to access their funds, leading to inconvenience and frustration.
Additionally, the disruption also affected the online money transfer services. Customers reported difficulties in transferring funds electronically, further exacerbating the situation.
In response to the customer concerns, the officials at 1LINK assured them that efforts were being made to resolve the issue. They confirmed that the connectivity with some banks was affected, and efforts were underway to resolve it promptly.
However, it is important to note that this wasn’t the first time Karachi faced disruptions in its banking services. Earlier in August, rumors of ATMs being closed across Pakistan made headlines. However, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) swiftly intervened and debunked these “fake news” reports, asserting that there was no truth to these claims.
Despite these occasional disruptions, Karachi’s banking system remains robust and functions efficiently most of the time. However, such incidents underscore the importance of maintaining stable connectivity and ensuring a seamless banking experience for all customers.
In conclusion, the disruption in the connectivity of various banks with 1LINK on Monday brought difficulties for customers when withdrawing cash from the ATMs. This blockade highlighted the urgent need for robust systems and seamless connectivity to provide uninterrupted banking services.
“In response to the fake news circulating in the media about potential closure of ATMs, we clarify that there is currently no such issue as non-availability/closure of LDI networks that may potentially impact the IT or financial sectors, including ATM networks,” the PTA said in a statement.
There is no suspension or shutdown of operations for the expired LDI licensees, the authority said.
