The Sindh Education and Literacy Department has announced Friday that new school timings are being implemented for the students to accommodate their welfare and convenience in the wake of the cold wave that has hit the province.

The new timetable is set to remain in place until January 31, 2024, at which time all private and government schools throughout Sindh will operate from 8:30am.

It was stated in the notification issued by Sindh School Education and Literacy Department that “With approval from the competent authority in view of the prevailing waves of severe cold […] all government and private educational institutions under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department will begin functioning at 8:30am.”

After a 10-day winter vacation break that began on December 22, 2023, the schools in Sindh have resumed classes for the first time since the holiday break began on January 1, 2024.

Public schools and private schools in Sindh will begin a new academic year on April 15, 2024, while colleges will start their new academic year on August 1, 2024.

Due to harsh weather conditions in the province of Punjab, which has been ravaged by severe cold, the Punjab government – due to harsh weather conditions – has extended the winter holidays of both public and private educational establishments until January 9.

As a result of recent events in Punjab, the schools in that province will reopen on January 10, but face masks will not be allowed on school property under strict restrictions.
