93 countries are now eligible for visa-free entry to Thailand

With the objective of revitalising its tourism industry, Thailand has decided to extend the scheme of visa-free entry to 93 countries and territories.

The new scheme which went into effect on Monday allows visitors to stay in the Southeast Asian nation for up to 60 days as part of the new arrangement.

Earlier, passport holders from 57 different countries were permitted entry without a visa, provided that they had a passport.

One of the main pillars of Thailand’s economy is tourism; however, as a result of the pandemic, the tourism industry has not fully recovered.

According to the official data from the Ministry of Tourism, Thailand received 17.5 million foreign tourists, a 35 percent increase from the same period last year, during the first half of 2024. There is no question that the number of cases pales in comparison to what it was pre-pandemic.

Additionally, it should be noted that the majority of visitors came from China, Malaysia, and India.

It has been estimated that the tourism industry generated a revenue of 858 billion baht during the same period of time ($23.6 billion; £18.3 billion), which is less than one-quarter of the government’s target.

A large number of tourists flock to Thailand because of the golden temples, the white sand beaches, and the scenic mountain ranges.

It was also announced on Monday that the government of the country would introduce a new five-year visa for remote workers. It is possible for holders of this visa to stay up to 180 days per year under this program.

In addition, students looking for jobs or seeking travel opportunities after earning a bachelor’s degree or higher in Thailand will also be permitted to stay in the country for one year after graduation for the purpose of searching for a job.

I have compiled a list of 93 countries and territories that will not be required to obtain a visa for travel to Thailand during the next 60 days.
