8.5 million devices are affected by CrowdStrik outage: Microsoft, Microsoft said in a blog post on Saturday that there was a worldwide outage of the Internet caused by a software update published by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike that caused nearly 8.5 million computers to open a new tab.

According to CrowdStrike’s blog, it estimates that about 8.5 million Windows devices have been affected by the update, or less than one percent of all Windows machines worldwide.

Earlier this week, a software update performed by the leading global cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, one of the largest players in the industry, caused a series of computer system malfunctions, which led to the grounding of flights, the suspension of broadcasts and the suspension of financial services, among other things.

Microsoft said in its blog post that although CrowdStrike’s percentage was small, its widespread economic and societal impacts were a result of the enterprise’s use of CrowdStrike in running a wide range of vital services.

Microsoft announced that CrowdStrike helped develop a solution that would speed up a fix for Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure. It also noted that it had been working with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform in order to share information about the effects that were being experienced throughout the industry.

On Saturday, the airlines and airports were still dealing with the aftermath of the massive outage that caused thousands of flights to be cancelled leading to passengers being left stranded or having to endure long delays as a result of the IT outage that affected airports and airlines.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, Delta Air Lines, an airline that has been hit particularly hard by the storm, said that more than 600 flights had already been cancelled, and that additional cancellations could be forthcoming.
