A new Guinness World Record has been set by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to ring in the New Year with a bang. This was achieved when over 50 boats anchored at Al Lulu Island in Abu Dhabi joined together to form the largest word equilateral.
It is reported that the Captain’s Club organized a boat tie-up to celebrate the 52nd year of National Day on Saturday, with a variety of vessels, including water sports, fishing boats, pontoons, and cruising boats, as part of a celebration conceived by members of the Captain’s Club to commemorate the 52nd year of National Day.
In an interview with Arabian Business magazine in December, Bashar Mihyar, the Marketing Director for the Captain Club, said “we chose to focus on the acronym UAE as a way to demonstrate our commitment to the country as we devised a long-term celebration plan for the UAE.”.
Therefore, in order to create the acronym for the United Arab Emirates, we used the number 52 due to the exact number of boats in the UAE.
Adding to Mihyar’s descriptions of the event, Mihyar further stated that the boats were ready to move by one a.m. Upon leaving the marinas on Yas Island and the Emirates Palace, the boats were transferred to Al Lulu Island, which is an island off the coast of Abu Dhabi.
At the break of dawn, people got into their working spirit and we started parking the boats around 6 am into the shape to begin work. We also organised a grand barbecue for the entire team to enjoy before we started working.
It took some time for all anchors and necessary equipment to be set up, but after we formed the first vertical lines of the letters ‘U’, ‘A’, and ‘E’, we filled in the gaps as we progressed.
“We had drones and photographers on standby to assist us in preparing for the record attempt, along with skilled professionals who were able to measure the dimensions and prepare for the attempt,” said the expat Jordanian.
In order to achieve the record, it took seven-and-a-half hours to complete the attempt which was accompanied by several challenges.
