3,000 O.D.I. runs by Imam-ul-Haq surpasses Babar Azam. In the second match of the ongoing World Cup 2023 between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Imam-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s top order batsman, reached a career milestone when he smashed 3,000 one-day international (ODI) runs, becoming the second fastest batter to reach the milestone in the history of one-day international play.

Having reached the milestone in just 67 innings, the left-handed opener surpassed skipper Babar Azam who reached the milestone in 68 innings.

As well as Imam, Fakhar Zaman and Shai Hope from the West Indies have also scored 3,000 runs in 67 innings during their careers.

The trio are followe by the South African’s Hashim Amla, who has reache the milestone in the shortest time possible – 57 innings – as the fastest batsman to do so.

There was an earlier game in the day during which Sri Lanka handed Pakistan a massive 345-run target with their batters Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama playing a ruthless game to smash two tons against Pakistan.

A Hassan Ali delivery led to Sri Lanka’s opening batter Kusal Perera departing without scoring off the first ball of his innings after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

The Islanders, however, recovered quickly thanks to a 102-run partnership between opener Pathum Nissanka (51 runs from 61 balls) and Kusal Mendis, who scored an impressive 122 runs from 77 balls, including six sixes during his innings.

It was Sadeera Samarawickrama who anchored Sri Lanka’s innings with his century of 108 runs, scoring 108 runs from 89 balls, skillfully finding gaps throughout the ground to score his century.

Later in the attack, Ali also returned with an impressive spell, returning figures of 4-71 from his 10 overs, while Haris Rauf returned figures of 2-64 from his 10 overs in response.
